In Punjab, PM Modi’s ego is hurt as no one came to attend his rally: Congress

by | Jan 6, 2022

Echoing the remarks made by Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security is deliberately being made an issue to divert attention from the fact that chairs remained vacant at the public meeting in Ferozepur that PM Modi was slated to attend on Wednesday.

“PM Modi’s ego is hurt as no one came to attend his rally in Punjab. Modi did not meet the farmers for more than a year, that is why Punjabis also did not listen to Modi. BJP is just trying to find ways to cover up the fact that their rally in Punjab was a total flop,” the Punjab Congress tweeted.

Punjab Congress leaders and workers are going to town with the claim of “70,000 chairs and only 700 attendees” and are posting tweets with the hashtag ‘70000 Kursi 700 Bande’.

“Mr. Modi you will have to listen to our farmers. There is no other way. They have been waiting for you patiently and lost a lot of loved ones,” read another tweet by Punjab Congress.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has constituted a two-member high level committee to conduct a “thorough probe” into security lapses which allegedly resulted in PM Modi getting stranded on the flyover for nearly 20 minutes amidst protests by a farmers’ union.

Senior BJP politicians and members of Narendra Modi cabinet including Amit Shah, Smriti Irani, and party chief JP Nadda slammed the Congress government in Punjab for the “major lapse in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach” on Wednesday.
