Panaji, (IANS) : The BJP and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government is committed to a free media, but there can be no compromise on issues related to “national security”, BJP national spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said on Monday.

Rao was addressing a press conference in the state capital after conducting a media workshop for the party’s state office bearers.

“The central government has repeatedly made it clear that they are certainly committed to media freedom, but it cannot compromise with the national security,” Rao said.

Rao also said that the central government was open to unanimous suggestions from the media, which could substitute the ban with an enhanced penalty or fine.
