Don’t hire daily wagers, centre tells all ministries

by | May 25, 2021

dailywagesNew Delhi, (IANS) The central government on Tuesday asked all its ministries and departments to stop recruitment of daily wagers and cautioned disciplinary action would be taken against officials concerned who flout this directive.

“It is reiterated that all ministries or departments may ensure strict compliance of the guidelines on engagement of casual labourers,” a directive from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said here.

“Negligence in the matter of implementing these guidelines should be viewed seriously and brought to the notice of the appropriate authorities for taking prompt and suitable action against the defaulters,” it said.

The order further said the work presently being done by regular staff should be “reassessed” by the administrative departments.

“This is a regular feature and generally the order is issued to avoid any legal wrangle wherein daily wagers may claim regularisation of their services after a stipulated period,” said an official.
