New Delhi, November, 25: Department of Biotechnology, Jamia Hamdard in collaboration with Department of Science & Technology and Department of Biotechnology, Government of India has organized a Two Day National Conference on Biotechnology for Sustainable Development and Human Welfare on 23rd & 24th November, 2022. More than 150 scientists and delegates working in the fields of biotechnology, agriculture, and sustainable development presented their research papers and views on cutting edge technologies and ongoing research in the field of biotechnology to achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. The conference was sponsored by DBT and DST, Gov. of India. Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Guest, Prof. Asim Ali Khan, Director General of CCRUM, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India emphasized the need for interdisciplinary research and collaboration between industry and academic as well as research institutions. Prof. (Dr.) Deepak Pental, in his Keynote lecture, talked about the future of agriculture and the positive role for genetically modified crops. The presidential speech was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard in which he said that hunger, poverty, climatic changes are big challenges which the world is facing, for which a coordinated and dedicated research based approach and implementation is required. Prof. (Dr.) M. Z. Abdin, the Organizing Secretary of the conference, informed that Department of Biotechnology, Jamia Hamdard is engaged in various biotechnological research projects and has been granted patents. Prof. S.P.S. Khanuja, Prof. Sudhanshu Vrati, Dr. Ajit Kumar Sasny, Dr. Viswanathan Chinnusamy and many other leading scientists participated in the conference.
The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Deans, Head of Departments, faculty, scientist, officers and students of Jamia Hamdard.
The programme ended with ‘National Anthem’ and the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Javaid Ahmad Sheikh.
