Dewas, Madhya Pradesh: Bajrang Dal members raised slogans against a Muslim family whose 20-year-old son allegedly eloped with a 19-year-old Dalit woman in a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district on Saturday, August 27.
Hindu right-wing activists threw stones and attacked some members of the Muslim family and shouted slogans, “When the cuts are cut, Ram will chant the name.” (When these circumcised Muslims are beaten, then we will chant the name of Lord Ram).
They also vandalized the mosque and created a ruckus, after which the villagers called the police and the administration.
Sub-divisional magistrate Shobharam Solanki said a case was registered against the Muslim man under sections 365 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) on the basis of a complaint by the woman’s brother Hrithik Verma.
Solanki further said that the police have also registered a case of vandalism against unidentified persons following a complaint from the family of the accused.
“Heavy security forces have been deployed in the village where the situation is currently peaceful,” he added.
