‘Morality is the basis of freedom’ month-long campaign started by MP Unit of JIH’s Women Wing

‘Morality is the basis of freedom’ month-long campaign started by MP Unit of JIH’s Women Wing

By Pervez Bari

Bhopal: A month-long nationwide campaign is being launched in September 2024 by the women’s department of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, (JIH).  The theme of this campaign is ‘Morality is the basis of freedom’. The campaign aims to create awareness among people and tell them what true freedom is and how to link it to morality.

In Madhya Pradesh, this campaign was started by a press conference held in Bhopal on Sunday in which Nazima of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Bhopal, Mrs. Mahnaz said that the mentality of atrocities on women has spread like an epidemic which is affecting the peace and development of our country. The main reason for this curse is the decline of moral values in the name of freedom. Problems like lack of moral values in the society, objectifying women, sexual exploitation and abuse, prostitution, extra-marital affairs, increased use of alcohol and drugs, etc. give rise to harassment and exploitation.

Similarly, apart from an increase in sexually transmitted infections (STIs), abortions, sexual violence and rape, the breakdown of the family unit and the prevalence of shamelessness are rapidly eroding the moral fabric of society. She further said that the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Women’s Department was concerned about various types of moral evils spreading in the society and we decided to run an awareness campaign regarding these evils for a whole month. This campaign is a link in this series, Mrs. Mahnaz stated.

State Level Convenor of the Campaign Ms. Rafia said that the objective of the campaign is to warn the society of the terrible consequences of unbridled freedom that is unfolding due to the decline of moral values. Increasing crime against women day by day forces us to think whether we are really free and safe? Freedom does not mean being violent, violating other’s rights, exploitation of women and injustice. The objective of this campaign is to give the right direction to the safety of women and the mindset of the society towards women.

Mrs. Habiba Malik, responsible for the Women’s Department, Bhopal, said that God has established this earth on justice and according to the intention of that Lord; justice should be done as long as this land and its system are running. Just as air, water, livelihood have been provided by God to all human beings, similarly morality and moral qualities have also been given to all human beings by God, one of the objectives of this campaign is that every person should recognize these moral values inside him and follow it accordingly. Justice is the intention of God and doing justice is the act of achieving a high position before God.

Talking about the nationwide campaign titled ‘Morality is the basis of freedom’, Mrs. Razia Masood, Media Co-In charge, JIH, Madhya Pradesh Unit said: “There is no denying the fact that one can achieve real life and lasting freedom only by following moral values. The aim of this campaign is to ensure the necessary freedom to fulfil the basic needs and achieve the basic rights for all without discrimination of caste, community, colour and race, sex, religion and region.

Awareness programmes involving academicians, counsellors, lawyers, religious scholars and community leaders at national, state, district and grassroots levels will be conducted during the campaign. Special programmes will be organised on the campus to familiarise students and youth with true freedom and moral values. The special programmes involving scholars of different faiths will be organised for public discussion on common moral values in every religion and culture, added Mrs. Razia Masood.

Increasing Fear of Islam

Increasing Fear of Islam

A recent statement by the Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch has stirred a big debate in
Sweden. She said that Muslims in Sweden must adapt to Swedish values or leave the country. Her
statements have raised questions about cultural integration, religious freedom, and immigration
policies, in Sweden and elsewhere.
Busch’s comments came after a celebration by Hamas supporters in Sweden. The event sparked
discussions on how different cultures can coexist in Sweden. Most Swedes are concerned about the
future of multiculturalism in the country. Some agree with Busch, saying that immigrants should
follow the values of their new country.
Others believe that such demands are unfair and could lead to discrimination against Muslims. Busch
stated, “I want Muslim girls and boys to feel that we are on their side.” She repeated this message
several times, showing her concern for young Muslims in Sweden. However, her comments have
been seen as controversial by many.
Meanwhile, on 31 August 2024, Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of PM Modi’s Economic Advisory Council
(PM-EAC), criticised the Sweden-based independent research institute Varieties of Democracy (V-
Dem).
Apparently, Sanyal’s critique was triggered by a statement from Ebba Busch, Sweden’s Deputy Prime
Minister, who claimed that Islam must align with Swedish values and that Sharia law has no place in
the country.
Through a witty post on his official X account, Sanyal tagged V-Dem and questioned, “Would be
interested to know if @vdeminstitute’s supercomputer adds or deducts points for these statements
from the Deputy PM of its home country.”
Sanyal claims that instead of addressing the issue or leaving it alone, the institute – rather than
engage with Sanjeev Sanyal’s critique – chose to block him.
However, we have to be clear here that Sanyal’s tweet was not in favour of Islam, or condemning the
Swedish Deputy PM, instead it seems to have been inspired on an earlier report from V-Dem
criticising India for its worsening democratic traditions.
In a subsequent post, Sanjeev Sanyal revealed that the V-Dem Institute had blocked him, and he
included a screenshot to confirm the action. Sanjeev mocked, “So, @vdeminstitute has now blocked
me!! So much for freedom and dialogue. This after I asked them a very common-sense question
about their home country.”
A survey by V-Dem shows how sovereign governments globally, are perceived through its research
and indices, such as The Regimes of the World (RoW). This framework categorises political systems
into four types: closed autocracies, electoral autocracies, electoral democracies, and liberal
democracies, based on V-Dem’s Democracy Core indices.
Earlier this year, the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute released a report labelling India as one
of the “worst autocratisers” globally in recent times. According to the institute, India remained
classified as an “electoral autocracy” in 2023. Their report highlighted that 42 countries, including
India, are experiencing a trend toward autocratisation.

CBSE conducts surprise inspections at 27 schools in Rajasthan, Delhi

CBSE conducts surprise inspections at 27 schools in Rajasthan, Delhi

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted a series of surprise inspections at 27 schools in Rajasthan and the national capital on Tuesday to check the ‘dummy school’ menace, top officials said.

The move comes six months after the board cancelled the affiliation of 20 schools for enrolling dummy students and ineligible candidates.

“These inspections were aimed at ensuring that the schools affiliated with the board are strictly adhering to the norms and bylaws set forth by CBSE. The inspections were carried out by 27 teams, each comprising a CBSE officer and a principal from a CBSE-affiliated school,” CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta said.

“The inspections were meticulously planned and executed in a synchronized manner, taking place simultaneously across all selected schools within a short timeframe,” he added.

Gupta said the approach was adopted to maintain the element of surprise, thereby ensuring that the information gathered about the operations and compliance of the schools is accurate and reflective of their everyday functioning.

“The findings from these inspections will be reviewed comprehensively, and appropriate actions will be taken in cases of non-compliance. CBSE reiterates its commitment to rigorous monitoring and will continue to conduct such surprise inspections to ensure that affiliated schools uphold the quality and standards expected by the board,” he added.

AAP reacts to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘interest’ in alliance for Haryana polls

AAP reacts to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘interest’ in alliance for Haryana polls

New Delhi: AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Tuesday welcomed reports claiming Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has shown interest in the possibility of an alliance with the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in poll-bound Haryana.

Singh told reporters that defeating the BJP is a priority of all the opposition parties and added any decision regarding the alliance will be taken with the approval of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal.

There were several reports claiming that Gandhi, in a meeting of Congress’ Central Election Committee (CEC) on Monday, expressed interest in the possibility of alliance with AAP for assembly polls in Haryana.

Voting on 90 assembly seats in Haryana will be held on October 5 and counting of votes will be undertaken on October 8.

“Defeating the BJP and its politics of hatred and politics against people, farmers and youth is a priority for all of us,” Singh said.

Singh, however, said any official stand on the issue will be made by AAP’s in-charge of Haryana affairs Sandeep Pathak and state president Sushil Gupta.

“Any final decision in this regard will be taken by our leaders associated with organisational and election-related works in Haryana, after the approval of Kejriwal,” said the senior AAP leader.
