RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, speaking at an event on Thursday to mark the centenary year of Shankar Dinkar Kane, popularly known as Bhaiyyaji, said that no one should declare themselves to be god. Kane, known for his work towards children’s education in Manipur, was honoured during the event.
Bhagwat stated, “The people should decide whether there is God in you.”
Highlighting the country’s strengths, Bhagwat noted, “Patriotism and diversity are our strengths. Patriotism goes to sleep, on and off. Everyone should remember that as a nation, we are one, and that sentiment is important.” He urged people to draw inspiration from national icons and contribute significantly to the country.
Addressing the ongoing conflict in Manipur, Bhagwat acknowledged the severe impact on the region, stating, “The current conflict has hit Manipur hard, taking several lives and disturbing peace. The situation is challenging for the locals and outsiders who work there.”
He said that RSS volunteers are actively working to bridge divides and restore peace by engaging in dialogues with local warring factions to build trust and harmony.
“In such a challenging scenario, RSS volunteers are putting in their might to bring the warring groups together and ensure peace. The RSS is regularly holding dialogues with local warring factions and trying to win their trust,” he said.

On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated his view that Sanatan Dharma is the singular true religion, asserting that any threat to it endangers humanity as a whole. Speaking at the Bharatatma Ashok Singhal Veda Award-2024 ceremony hosted by the Singhal Foundation in Ayodhya, Adityanath emphasized that the preservation of Sanatan Dharma is crucial for global betterment.
Adityanath praised Ashok Singhal, a prominent figure in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and a key proponent of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement, for his dedication to Sanatan Dharma. He highlighted Singhal’s contributions, including his role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, and described Singhal as an embodiment of the principles he advocated.
He said, “The impact of his contributions to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement was evident on January 22, 2024, when the most significant event of this century took place. On that day, Lord Shri Ramlala was enthroned in the magnificent temple by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s own hands. When dedication is genuine, the results follow.”
Adityanath also praised Singhal’s efforts in uplifting the untouchables and noted the establishment of Veda Vidyalaya and Ekal Vidyalaya as integral to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He emphasized that the Vedas represent the fundamental origin of all global religions, and Singhal’s life was a testament to this significance.
In his address, CM Yogi also referenced the murder of cow protector Sundar Yadav by “cow smugglers” in Azamgarh, highlighting how the subsequent movement led by Singhal resulted in the arrest of Yadav’s killers.
He said India’s prestige is rooted in Sanskrit and cultural heritage, suggesting that the world looks to India for peace, security, and harmony.
The ceremony also honoured several individuals with Lifetime Achievement Awards and other accolades. Veda Murti, Senior Brahmarshi Vishnu Patal Subramaniam, and Acharya Gopal Chandra Mishra received a prize of seven lakhs, a medal, and a certificate for their outstanding contributions to Vedic education. Adarsh Vedadhyapak Vice Chancellor R. Chandramouli Shruti of Tamil Nadu received five lakhs, a medal, and a certificate, while Uttam Veda Vidyarthi Narayan Lal Sharma from Rajasthan was awarded three lakhs, a medal, and a certificate.

Kolkata: Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers on Friday conducted simultaneous search operations at the residences of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and three of his associates in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the institute, an officer said.
The raids were carried out at Ghosh’s residence in Beliaghata and at two locations in Howrah and Subhasgram. All the four are already in CBI custody.
“We reached these places around 6.15 am and started our raids,” the officer told PTI.
The ED has filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against Ghosh, which is analogous to a First Information Report (FIR) in criminal cases.
On August 23, the Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation into the alleged financial irregularities at state-run hospital from a state-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the CBI.
This decision followed a petition by Dr. Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of the facility, who sought an investigation by the ED into multiple allegations of financial misconduct during Ghosh’s tenure as principal.
