Will not allow anti-Muslim, minority campaigns: K C Tyagi

by | Jun 8, 2024

KC Tyagi, National Spokesperson for the Janata Dal (United) (JDU), asserted that his party, part of the incoming National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, will not tolerate any anti-Muslim or anti-minority campaigns. Emphasizing the JDU’s credibility among Muslims, Tyagi vowed to prevent divisive actions against minorities under the new administration.

Tyagi’s comments were a response to concerns over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) rhetoric during the Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s controversial remarks targeting Muslims had sparked widespread criticism. Tyagi urged unity post-elections, highlighting the need for consensus and reconciliation.

He noted the JDU’s appeal in Muslim-majority areas, citing Kishanganj, where the JDU candidate, not the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), secured the second position. This, according to Tyagi, demonstrated Nitish Kumar’s acceptance among Muslims.

The NDA, led by the BJP, secured re-election in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Despite falling short of an outright majority, the NDA formed a government with crucial support from allies like Nitish Kumar’s JDU and N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Tyagi’s statements underscore the JDU’s commitment to inclusivity and minority rights within the ruling coalition.
