Jamia Professor Meets President of India To Seek Assurance on SDGs, Development of Jamia, AMU Kishanganj

New Delhi: Dr. Raquib Alam, Assistant Professor, University Polytechnic, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) during his meeting with the Hon’ble President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu on 13 January  raised the issue of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to seek her assurance on achieving critical targets and goals for SDG’s and development of Jamia and AMU Kishanganj.   

 

“It was quite encouraging to see that the Hon’ble President was very much aware about Sustainable Development Goals like Quality Education, Peace, Justice and Strong Institution. The President appreciated my endeavours to achieve the critical targets and goals for SDG’s adopted by India in 2015 which is to “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all,” by the year 2030, said Dr Alam after his meeting with the Hon’ble President.  

 

During his meeting with the Hon’ble President, Dr.  Alam briefed about the engraining of skilled based and value-based education among the students. Hon’ble President explained the role of teachers in shaping good well-being from the ancient times and emphasized on the importance of value-based education by saying, “Moral values should be incorporated in course curriculum from the childhood.” President also emphasized that we all have to work together to produce good human being with high moral values. Hon’ble President also stressed on the importance of both value-based and skilled based learning to create a good human being who can utilize their full potential. Hon’ble President also opined that we all have to work together to produce good human being with high moral values.

 

Quoting “The destiny of India is being shaped in her classroom.” (The Education Commission, 1964-65), Alam said, “Promotion of value-based education across the country that can inculcate character development, personality development, citizenship development, spiritual development of a student. Moral, constitutional. cultural and spiritual values must be imparted to the students from school level.”  

 

The Jamia faculty Dr. Alam briefed the Hon’ble President that Kishanganj is his home district and one of the most backward districts of Bihar. He requested the Hon’ble President to develop JMI & AMU Centre Kishanganj and also invited President to visit Kishanganj. Hon’ble President assured him that she will do her best for the betterment of society.  “I am is very hopeful that we all together will attain the critical targets and goals for SDG’s adopted by our country,” said Dr Alam.
