Dubai has suspended both the personal liquor license fee and the municipality’s 30% tax on all alcoholic beverages. The Dubai Municipality announced a one-year trial period during which all alcoholic beverages will be tax-free for 2023.
Personal liquor licenses will be free to obtain for those eligible to legally purchase alcoholic beverages in Dubai beginning January 1, 2023. To apply, one will still need a valid Emirates ID or, for tourists, a passport.
To drink legally in the UAE, a person must be at least 21 years old, and alcohol can only be consumed privately or in licensed public places.
According to Caterer Middle East “Confirmation of the move has been sent to industry players, and alcohol companies have already started to contact their customers advising them of the change coming into effect from Sunday, January 1.”
According to what is known, the Dubai government anticipates that the savings will be passed on to patrons by establishments, making the city more accessible to tourists in 2023 and bringing its price of alcoholic beverages in line with those in other emirates.
