There are Two Indias, One for the Rich and Another for the Poor: Rahul

by | Feb 3, 2022

The Congress leader corners the Modi Government on all fronts including poverty and unemployment and lists the achievements of the previous UPA government

NEW DELHI – Blasting Modi Government’s China policy, the leader of the Opposition and prominent Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, said it’s the government’s ill-advised policy which has brought China and Pakistan together. In a fiery speech in the Lok Sabha, he tore into the government’s all-round failure on foreign policy as well as domestic fronts.

Rahul Gandhi said that one of the key points missing from the President’s address was the gulf between the extremely wealthy Indians and others.

“There are two Indias, one India is for the extremely rich people, with immense wealth and power, those who do not need a job, water connection, electricity connection. Another India is for poor people and the divide between two Indias is widening,” Rahul Gandhi said.

The Congress leader said that according to the government data, 10 richest Indians have as much wealth as 40 crore Indians. “How did it happen? Narendra Modi ji did it,” he said.

Speaking further on the foreign policy of the government, Rahul Gandhi said, “This is the single biggest sin you have committed against the people of India. China has a clear-cut plan which they have implemented in Doklam and Ladakh. This is a very serious threat to the Indian nation. We have made a huge strategic mistake in our foreign policy,” he said.

Since early 2020, there is a military stand-off between India and China on the border of the Ladakh region. The two sides are consistently working on a military buildup, piling heavy weapons and machinery besides constructing roads. In June 2020, the engagement turned bloody with the two armies clashing with each other leading to casualties on both sides.

In his speech, Gandhi also touched upon the issue of unemployment, saying the situation is the worst in 50 years. He was particularly concerned about the fact that the gap between the rich and the poor is widening in the country.”

“UPA Govt pulled 27 crore people out of poverty in 10 years. This is not our data, this is factual data. You pushed 23 crore people back into poverty”.

He took on the President for not including central issues the country is facing in his speech. He said he was worried that the youth across the country are looking for jobs, but no one in the government seems bothered about it.

“There was not a single word on unemployment in the Presidential Address. The youth across the country are looking for jobs. Your government is unable to provide them with one. You speak of providing employment, 3 crore youths lost their jobs in 2021. Today India is facing the highest amount of unemployment in 50 years. You talk of Make in India, Start-Up India, but the youth did not get the employment they were supposed to,” he said.

Rahula Gandhi also expressed his reservation on the success of the Make in India initiative that was launched by the government with much fanfare. He stressed the government destroyed the small and medium industry, the unorganised sector which, he said, caused the failure of Make in India.

Earlier,  Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge slammed the government for the record unemployment the country is facing pointing out that it has failed to fulfil its promise of providing 2 crore jobs every year.

“You should have provided 15 crore jobs by now. But how many jobs did you actually provide? This year’s Budget promises just 60 lakh jobs in the next 5 years,” he said.
