These colleges had permanent posts for Urdu teachers but no recruitment has been done for those posts in past many years
The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has issued notices to Delhi University vice-chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh over closure of the teaching of Urdu language and literature in four DU colleges.
Khalsa College, Lady Sriram College, Miranda House and Ambedkar College have stopped teaching Urdu. These colleges had permanent posts for Urdu teachers but no recruitment has been done for those posts in past many years. In such a scenario, there are no teachers of the languages in the said colleges as all previous teachers have retired, Inquilab, India’s largest Urdu newspaper, reported.
The NCM has directed DU vice-chancellor, principles of the aforementioned four colleges and head of the DU’s Urdu department to send their reports on this issue within 30 days. The notice was issued on 20 December.
