Sikhs offer gurudwaras for namaz after protests by BJP, Hindu hardliners

by | Nov 19, 2021

After various attempts of disruptions by supporters of BJP and Hindutva groups, members of the Sikh community have offered premises of gurudwaras for Muslims to pray.

The Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Sabzi Mandi, Gurgaon, has five places of worship under its aegis which will now be open to all communities to pray in Sadar Bazar, Sector 39, Sector 46, Model Town and Jacobpura, The Indian Express reported.

“It’s ‘Guru Ghar’, open for all communities with no discrimination. There shouldn’t be any politics here. Basement is now open for Muslim brothers who want to offer ‘Jumme ki namaz’,” President of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Sherdil Singh Sidhu said while speaking to news agency ANI.

Sidhu added that Muslims should be allowed to offer namaz in an open space and there should be no fight over such petty issues. “People who were offering namaz in open sought administration’s permission and those who had problem should have approached administration before attacking them,” he added.

This comes after authorities cancelled permission to offer Friday prayers at some of the designated sites in Gurugram amid attempts of disruption by leaders of the BJP and Hindu extremist groups.

Before the Sikh community, a Hindu man from Gurgram – Akshay Rao – had also offered the roof of his house for Friday namaz.

The much-needed step taken by Rao and members of the Sikh community has won the hearts of many Indians. They are being admired as they have set one more example of religious harmony.
