Amman, (IINA) : Jordanian Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Wael Arabiyat urged the Arab League, Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the United Nations Organization to pressure Israel to stop its recurrent violations and ‘failed attempts’ to change the status quo in the occupied Jerusalem.
The Jordanian official on Monday denounced as “vicious” the recent Israeli assaults against Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning that the continuation of such violations will trigger a religious war, which King Abdullah had repeatedly warned against.
He expressed ‘complete rejection’ of storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by more than 400 extremist settlers under ‘tight and unprecedented protection of Israeli police and Special Forces’, Petra reported.
In a press release, the minister also censured Israeli police for breaking into the mosque on Monday and the storming of Ultra-Orthodox Jewish settlers of the holy shrine, where they stayed until 10 am this morning.
“It is a blatant challenge to the feelings of Muslims and a clear violation of international law and norms”, the minister described assaulting and arresting the worshippers and the Talmudic rituals the settlers performed in the mosque.
Arabiyat also ‘saluted’ the steadfast brethren of the Al-Aqsa mosque, youth and worshipers who stood up against the viscous raids.
