Jakarta (IINA) – Indonesia will host the 12th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) at the Jakarta Convention Center on August 2-4. It is for the second time Indonesia is hosting such a forum since 2009, The Jakarta Post (JP) reported.
“The government will use this forum to promote investment opportunities in the country and to market our products, whether they be products with halal certification or existing products deemed competitive in the international market,” Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said Wednesday.
The minister said the forum was also aimed at further exploring the crucial role of micro, small and medium enterprises in driving economic growth around the world, adding that this was in line with the forum’s theme, “Decentralizing Growth, Empowering Future Business”.
Bambang said the forum will discuss several sub-themes, such as Islamic Finance, Islamic fashion and design, Sharia-based infrastructure financing, innovative technology, small and medium enterprises financing as well as the promotion of halal industries.
“For Indonesia, we will also promote halal tourism or Muslim-friendly tourism,” he said.
Some 2,500 delegates and 60 role players from over 100 countries across the globe are expected to attend the 12th World Islamic Economic Forum. Four leaders that have already confirmed their attendance are prime minister of Malaysia, president of Guinea, prime minister of Sri Lanka and president of Tajikistan.
